Amanda Carnie began dancing at the age of five with Angela Hill and Marita Lawden, studying jazz, tap, contemporary, character and classical dance. Amanda came runner-up in the Teachers Workshop Scholarship in 1981. In 1986 she was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts School of Dance and there completed years nine, ten and eleven. During this time she also studied drama and one year of singing training.
